History

The predecessor of TV BRICS Orchestra was the International Digital Orchestra by Golikov, created in Russia in 2020. At that time, internationally renowned musicians united on one multimedia platform. Digital Orchestra is considered a «new orchestral formation» that has expanded the usual boundaries of «coverage» of classical music. The TV BRICS orchestra concept develops the idea of Digital Orchestra by bringing together musicians to interact with the largest multimedia platforms.

On 26 October 2023, the TV BRICS international media network announced the establishment of the TV BRICS International Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble, comprising musicians from Russia, China and other BRICS+ countries, takes into account the experience of national media structures that have their own symphony orchestras: BBC (UK), ZDF, WDR, NDR (Germany), NHK (Japan), as well as the former orchestra of Gosteleradio of the USSR (Soviet Union). Maestro Mikhail Golikov became Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the orchestra. The emergence of the new ensemble helped to strengthen the process of popularising the achievements of the BRICS countries in the field of culture, musical art and classical music.

The closed concert-presentation of the TV BRICS Orchestra took place on 25 January 2024 in Moscow. A welcome message from Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, was read out at the gala evening: «I would like to express my gratitude to the participants and organisers of today’s event and cannot but note that it is in Russia, a country that has been absorbing the cultures of East and West, North and South for centuries, that the TV BRICS International Orchestra has emerged». According to Shvydkoy, the appearance of the TV BRICS multinational musical ensemble «will have a significant impact on the development and strengthening of dialogue between the BRICS countries». In turn, the orchestra’s principal conductor Mikhail Golikov noted that the orchestra’s mission is to present to the world the unique riches of the national cultures of the BRICS countries.

The orchestra plans to tour the BRICS+ countries, perform at world summits and forums, record concert programmes for broadcasting on TV channels and radio stations, and cooperate with the world’s leading musicians and composers.
